1.ABSOLUTE COMPOSITES: we're going to start off with a Bengaluru Base start-up called absolute Composites founded by Raghavendra Reddy in 2014 this company started off by designing and Manufacturing drone components But as time went on Raghavendra Reddy became inspired by gravity Industries Iron Man style jet suit and decided to build his own after years of effort their team is actually built a prototype Iron Man style jet suit out of India and it was showcased at the AERO India 2023 event earlier this year. photo credit:NDTV This diesel powered suit can carry a person weighing 80 kilos a maximum range of 8 km in just 8 minutes and I know it might seem futuristic but this suit could actually be used by military to carry medicine navigate difficult land and even carry out an offensive against enemies and not surprisingly absolute Composites jet suit was a hit at the event and garnered interest from the Indian army and now they're building 48 of these jet suits for the Indian army. 2. Hyper Stealth Technologies Hyper stealth Technologies Pvt limited (HSTPL) is Delhi based startup and it’s founded by Deepak Bhalla and Manish Dalmia in 2016 hyper stealth Technologies does exactly what their name suggest they develop stealth technology products using Fabric and paints to help Indian Defence Forces avoid enemy detection some of their Flagship products include their multispectral camouflage nets. Which can be used to non-mobile weapons and vehicles by suppressing their electromagnetic signatures and then you also have their radar absorbing pain which military vehicles can be coded with to reduce the chances of detection while on the Move inside enemy territory and these are just a couple of their Innovative stealth products and earlier this year hyper stealth Technologies received an order from the Indian army for their integrated mobile camouflage system(IMCS). 3. Newspace Research Again Bengaluru based start-up called new space research and Technologies founded by Sameer Joshi and Julius Amarit in 2017 new space research and Technologies designs and develops Next Generation drones and when I say next Generation I'm not exaggerating here because these drones are actually called swarm drones and unlike most drones which are operated by humans these swarm drones are a collection of smaller drones which use algorithms to communicate and function together with minimal human interaction and they're designed to mimic the behaviour of bees or birds The military swarm drones are very important for Missions where you need to cover larger distances and areas for surveillance or attack but why are swarm drones so important in a defence context well even if a couple of these drones are shot down the larger swarm will go on and continue the mission and that's one of the reasons why the Indian army recently signed a deal with new space to procure a 100 of these swarm drones which are capable of attacking at least 50 km inside the enemy territory. 4. Kapindra Precision Engineering: It’s an Chennai based Kapindra Precision Engineering founded by Padmanabh Bagaria in 2017. And it’s developed Diamond coating technology that can protect any material from high temperatures and friction and this technology has a lot of value especially in Aerospace defence take for example Hypersonic missiles these missiles fly at a minimum speed of Mach 5 that's five times faster than the speed of sound leaving the Earth's atmosphere and coming back to Earth's surface to hit their targets. But here's the thing when these missiles are coming back down to earth they reach very high temperatures of more than 2,400 degree Celsius and that's where Kendra's Diamond coating technology comes into play and at this point Indian scientists are actually working with Kapindra to apply this diamond coating technology to the surface of hypersonic missiles in in order to dissipate heat from their surface and the company has even won the DRDO'S dare to dream contest for its innovative technology which has immense potential for Indian defence. 5. IdeaForge ideaForge a Mumbai based company which might not qualify as a startup anymore because they're actually publicly traded but I want to talk about this. So ideaForge was founded by 3 IIT Bombay graduates Ankit Mehta, Ashish Bhat and Rahul Singh in 2007 and they're actually the market leader in India's drone industry with over 50% market share they started their journey by just building drones for fun and then helping out the DRDO with various projects. But it was actually during the 2008 Mumbai attacks that idea Forge realized the true potential of drones for defense purposes see at the time Indian Defense Forces were trying to use helicopters to get a better view inside of the Taj Hotel but of course drones would have done a much better job at this task because they're much smaller faster and more discreet. So in 2009 idea Forge launched India's first quadcopter drone Netro V4+ UAV for the purpose of surveillance and mapping and today idea Forge is selling drones worth 186 CR rupees and most of this revenue is coming from the defence sector and of course as we all know earlier this year in 2023 idea Forge became one of the few profitable tech companies to go public in India. In conclusion, the Indian defense sector is witnessing a remarkable surge in innovation and development primarily driven by a burgeoning startup ecosystem and these startups are ranging from Bengaluru's Absolute Composites to ideaForge are not just enhancing India's defense capabilities.these startups are not just fulfilling domestic defense needs but are also positioning India as a significant player in the global defense technology arena.
